Professor Jory Malone, head coach of the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu program at Revolution MMA, was the main instructor. He said the seminar was based on statistically probably scenarios young girls might find themselves in, in particular as they get older and move to college, where sexual assault is prevalent. Professor Malone, along with the other instructors present, took the girls through a 2 hour class where the girls got to see demonstrations and practice the techniques themselves with a partner. Each girl also left with a detailed handout of the seminar, and was encouraged to find a partner to practice with at home.
Assisting Professor Malone was Abby Malone, a lifelong martial artist and co owner of Revolution MMA. Coach Abby recently won double gold at the World Masters Jiu Jitsu Championship, making her Revolution’s 3 & 4th World Champion! In addition, Josh Norris, an instructor with Revolutions’ Kickboxing program assisted, as well as Jr. Instructor Ashley Norris. Ashley Norris is a member of Revolution’s Kids Martial Arts program, and as well as training in the bully defense curriculum, she also trains heavily in the competition class as well. All of the instructors, coming from different walks of life, shared their collective knowledge with the girls to make sure they left armed and prepared for the world that awaits them.
Sexual assault is all to common with young women. RAINN estimates that 44% of victims of Sexual Assault are under the age of 18, and 80% are under the age of 30. More frightening than that, reports show that 60% of sexual assaults are not reported to the police, and 2/3 occur by someone known to the victim acting as the offender.
Given these chilling statistics, there should be little convincing left to say that women and young girls need a solid self defense program, like the one we have at Revolution MMA in Benton, AR. At Revolution MMA, young girls can start as early as 4 learning valuable self defense that will help keep them safe. In addition, it is proven to boost confidence and provides a steady dose of health and fitness that anyone can benefit from.
